Nondiscrimination in Federal Financial Assistance
Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act provides that no person in the United States shall, on the grounds of race, color, or national origin be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. The County of Orange is committed and fully complies with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and related statutes and regulations, in all programs and activities.
In addition to Title VI, the other nondiscrimination statutes that afford legal protection are: Section 162 (a) of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1973 (23 USC 324) (sex), Age Discrimination Act of 1975 (age), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973/Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (disability). Together, these requirements define an over-arching Title VI Program.
OCPW investigates allegations of improper activity and discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or sexual orientation.
